Why use Blogger?

A lot of people ask why I use Blogger rather than a self-hosted WordPress set-up. I don't know really - I guess because Blogger is so easy; ~ It does everything I need it to do. ~ I don't require ads (adsense, chitika etc) all over the place. ~ I can use my mobile phone to post to my Blogger. I have used WordPress briefly, and it's a fine tool - I just don't see a need for it, right now. My little blog is just fine and dandy with Blogger for now :)

New URL: www.osworld.biz - thanks!

I use it... because most people who's blogs I'm interested in reading use it...

It means I can use my account to post comments, and link to people's posts on my blog by highlighting what I want to quote and clicking a little button at the top of the page.

I use blogger cos I kept getting the dreaded WordPress Error 28 :(

IMO WP is much better than blogger, but as has been said, blogger does what needs to be done.

I personally think Blogger blogs don't look professional. However, being able to comment on others without logging in all the time is a bonus.

I'm for hosting a site youself on a true domain.

If any regular reader wants a free WP blog I have spare space and bandwidth if you contact me.

I've never used Blogger myself. But from what I've heard, what it does, it does well, and you don't have to maintain it. Google pays people to do that for you. I do know with LiveJournal, you also get access to a network of other journalers. Is this also true with Blogger?

On the other hand, Blogger lacks certain things some of us do want. This is why I considered Blogger, but then decided to go with my own site. I wanted my own domain name. I wanted to control the look and feel of the blog and the page layout, and to customize the features available. I also wanted to monetize my blog and to control how it is monetized. And as I later found out, Blogger does not support trackbacks, which are effective PR.

The other good thing about Blogger is the "next" button. I know a few regular readers have only stumbled over my site as a result of that button...

I may change to wordpress in the future, but for now blogger is fine.

TimK, Blogger gives you the option of using your own domain name provided you have the hosting for it. My blog at Blogger uses my domain name .
