Burts Challenge - Will You Accept ?

Here is a challenge which I lay down to everyone who reads this Blog... Buy a new Domain Name. Build a Site. Launch it on Friday December 16th. Whoever earns the most from their site upto and including January 31 2006, will be declared the winner. The winner will receive $100 (via Paypal) from me. You will need to let me know your Domain Name before the 16th. Summary: ~ new domain name ~ build and launch a site ~ monetise it ~ advertise it ~ have fun with it There are 2 rules: ~ Your site must be on a brand new Domain Name (this is because everyone will start without an advantage over anyone else). No cheating to get around this please. ~ Each entrant must agree to let everyone else know their URL and the methods they used to monetise/advertise the site, as well as their monetary results - AFTER the competition ends. OK, that's the basics of it - it doesn't need to be a complicated competition. Who is up for the challenge ? Email me to provisionally enter: oscshops@gmail.com

New URL: www.osworld.biz - thanks!

Sounds interesting, might give it a go.

Does the domain have to be registered on the 16th? Or can it be registered now to be launched on the 16th?

Ill be up for that Burt!
My main aim... not to be in last position!
COMMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEE ONNNNNNN !!!
LOL :)

Yeah, basically - so long as you register the domain name today at the earliest, you can use it...

Actual launch has to be the 16th (to give everyone the same starting line) - once "in the race" you could (and should) do anything to get into the lead...

Of course, you could launch after teh 16th and handicap yourself in the running, but even so a few extra days of planning could result in better profits at the end of January.

Tips:
~ products that sell are worth hundreds of adsense clicks.
~ products that you create, you get to keep 100% of the sales price (as opposed to Clickbank products for example)...

If it was me in the running (I'm not actually going to enter), I would find a new or established product and then create a value added service for it. Perhaps a Technical eBook, or some sort of Template or SEO service...

Remember, these sites do not have to be full AIS - they can be anything...

Man, I'd love too but as you know I have a gigantic product I am working on. I am on a tight launch schedule, so I'm going to have to pass :(

Ok I have a little idea based on this for fun then Burt.
How about a little bet on how much the winner is likely to make in $?
I have no clue but its prob well into 4 figures... or am I way out here?
I guess it depends who you have reading this? ;)

What about myself and oscbooks?

Does that mean I could just create myself a reseller account and use a new domain and add other services or does it have to be a service that we don't already offer IYSWIM?

Chance; pah! ;-)

Jamez; I dunno - it depends upon what people choose to do with their new sites...

Paul; sure, why not - so long as it's on a new domain...

If I was to enter, I'd probably aim at some sort of a Valentines Niche...

Well, anyway, anyone interested - email me...

I'm in - will be useful to have a target deadline!

(though whether I can meet it is a different matter entirely)

Is the challenge to see who gets the highest turnover or profit?

If it's profit, how are we going to make sure people declare their costs fully?

I have an idea for an ebook so, provided I have time to write it by the 16th, I'm in :) Do I factor the time it takes me to write the ebook into my costs?

We'll just keep it nice and simple. Turnover. Forget the costs of starting up, as that's too complicated...

Great idea Gary - Should throw up some interesting ideas.

Why d'ya have to kick off before xmas though? :(

I got precisely 0 free minutes in the day this side of chrimbo. (In fact I could do with a couple of 36 hour days to get on top of the current orders!)

Just one point on the results - turnover could be vastly inflated and profit could actually be a loss if alot is spent on advertising a new site (adwords, etc). This could well be used to take advantage of your prize money. (Dont mean to complicate the comp!)

Anyhow, I do hope all entrants will give us as much detail as they can about their entries - am looking forward to reading about any success stories.

Cheers and good luck to all entrants (maybe I can knock something up over xmas and still get somewhere in the running)

Rich

Yep, I'm looking forward to seeing all the ideas that people have...

I need a big favour from you guys! Can I ask that if anyone has a blog or site, I'd really appreciate a link to this thread - I'd like to get as many entrants as possible to give this Challenge a go. The more people we have that enter, the more we can learn from different techniques and ideas! Thank :-)

OK Guys, so far I have three confirmed entries (I have emailed back to confirm each entry).

I will also be entering as I have plans for total world domination, mwahahhaha...

Anyone else, please remember that I need to know you are entering [ oscshops@gmail.com ]...

Great idea setting this up Gary.

If I can get my grey matter stirred I may enter as well. Just so no-one feels they may come last, y'know.

Looking forward to seeing how everyone approaches this though!

Thanks Chris :)

OK, there is an extra $25 prize. This prize will go to a randomly chosen contestant. So even if you don't win, you could still end up with something!

I amy come up with more prizes too, we'll see.

Its too bad there is not a long term version of this contest- I just registered a new domain today that I think will make conciderable ammounts of money in the next 6-9 months, but won't even be out of development by Jan 31st :)

Well, I'm definately up for the challenge. I've been up to something for a while now but never knew how to implement it until "stumbling" across Burt's blog one day... Gotta love the "Next Blog" button! This will be my first actual AIS project =) Watch out experienced AIS'ers!!! lol

I found out about this at another site. Will we be able to see the entrants sites, even if we don't enter? I'm sure that it will be interesting reading how some of the guys put their sites up in a short space of time etc, etc. I love success stories :-)

Every entrant will be keeping a note of all the highs and lows over the coming 6 weeks. At the end of which they'll show us how well their site did, and the methods they used for promotion, monetization and the like.

So, you won't be able to see the entrants sites now, unless the entrant themself wants to reveal their URL.
