Amazon Affiliateship

I never really looked at Amazon as a godd sales opportunity as the commission rate is so low, typically 5% or so. However, I notice that a few people do use it. Is Amazon worthwhile to add into the mix for these AIS sites? In other words, is the extra effort involved in creating scripts etc worth the likely return? I'd be interested to know your thoughts (particularly if you do already use Amazon). Thanks!

New URL: www.osworld.biz - thanks!

I've been an Amazon affiliate for around 4-5 years. The cookies only last 24 hours so even if you refer a visitor, unless they purchase the item instantly it's a waste of a referral. The earnings is about 5% minimum. Also to get any decent pay out you need to sell a lot of products.

The original scheme of 15% for a directly recommended book was far more worthwhile, however amazon does seem to be a front runner in site integration.

Thanks Sarah - I decided not to go down the route of Amazon. I may start some sort of an (AIS type) fan site in the future, and will probably add in low-cost products on that (ie books, dvds, albums and the like).

In other words, products that don't take much thinking about!
