People who steal your work...

I found someone on eBay is selling one of my copyrighted eBooks. Why do people think that just because it's a digital product it gives them the right to steal work and pass it off as their own. Stealing, cheating, theiving a-holes. On this particular eBook, my copyright notice is clearly displayed at the bottom of each page. The eBook is lodged with the British Library with me as the copyright owner and author - meaning I will win if I ever take a case to court. I am also a member of the VERO program at eBay, and have on occasion had to use this. Earlier on today I sent in a VERO "Notice of Infringement", but as yet, eBay have not responded.

I found someone else selling my eBook also. I emailed this guy and he responded with "I bought resell rights". What a crock of BS.

I emailed back letting him know quite bluntly what I thought of that. I intend to take action against this lowlife tomorrow - it took me about 1 minute of sleuthing to dig out his real name and home address. He'll have a shock soon enough when he gets my usual certified letter.

He has now removed my eBooks from sale...

This is the pertinent statement from this lowlife fraudster, as he is insistent that he read that he would receive resell rights with the original purchase.

What a bullsh*tter - and this guy runs a christian website!

Thou shalt not steal is a good lesson for him to learn!

Well, anyway, as far as I am concerned the matter is now over and done with - I'll keep on checking back every so often to make sure that he doesn't start selling my stuff again.

I think that some folks (obviously not that person) think that an eBook is just like a real book, that they can sell when they're done with it. They would then delete their copy (no way to tell for sure) as they're not the proper owner of the book any longer.

Totally impossible to verify, though.

"I bought resell rights"

Maybe he himself was scammed by someone else selling your book and claiming to offer resale rights?

Oli, that's a possibility - but in this case it's not. The guy gave me the date he purchased and I went back through the purchases to dig out his name/address.

Jared, that's true - but most don't read the T & C's stating that they cannot resell it under any circumstances.

I think some people just like to make a fast buck from the hard work of others :(

True, there will always be dishonest and unethical people. Can't change that.

So, someone at eBay in Dublin has visited the item that I reported via the VeRO program - that was an hour ago. The listing still has not been removed, and I have heard nothing back from eBay about this as yet.

I'll report back when I hear more! It might be quite interesting to see a VeRO timeline from the aspect of the VeRO owner...
